Organic Apricot Jam
Apricot, locally known as “chulli,” is one of the most nutritive, delicious and commercially important fruit crops of Ladakh. It has a wide range of distribution in different parts of Ladakh with, particularly abundance in Sham (western) part of Ladakh including Dha-Hanu, Garkhon, Skurbuchan, Domkhar, Wanla, Khaltse and Timosgang villages.
Apricot in Ladakh, is believed to have been introduced a century back either from China or Central Asia. Since then, apricot has become one of the most preferred and commercially cultivated fruit crop of Ladakh and has become an integral part of the people there.
Short Story About Producers
Anay Dolma from Dha-Hanu village lovingly tended and harvested these apricots over a period of five months. These apricot are then made into a jam at community level self-help groups. The kernels which are separated from the fruit are also used to make apricot oil or can be consumed raw.
