The apricot grown in Ladakh is one of the best and finest apricots of the World. Apricot in Ladakh, is believed to have been introduced a century back either from China or Central Asia. Since then, apricot has become one of the most preferred and commercially cultivated fruit crop of Ladakh and has become an integral part of the people there. It has a wide range of distribution in different parts of Ladakh with, particularly abundance in Sham (western) part of Ladakh including Dha-Hanu, Garkhon, Skurbuchan, Domkhar, Wanla, Khaltse and Timosgang villages.
These apricot are handpicked and then the kernel is separated from the main fruit. Each individual kernel is cracked by hand for you to enjoy. There are two types of kernels, one is the sweet one and the other is the bitter one. The bitter one is used to produce apricot kernel oil.
